Default Help, oily gasoline liquid pouring from ignition

I have a 1996 FLSTF, and yesterday after not starting for a while, many months, a oily, gasoline smelling liquid started pouring out of the ignition derby cover.

First thoughts are oil running by a cam bushing or seal but why does is it so thin and smell like gasoline? Is the oil too thin to stay behind the seal due to the gas maybe?

What PVC or such should I check out before removing the nose cone for the cam.

This is the first problem with this bike in almost 18 years other than normal maintenance. Thanks!! I am new here.

There is no reason to mess with the cone.

Make sure the carb is not overflowing gas into the cylinder, this is probably caused by a problem with the needle and seat inside the carburetor. When this happens, the gas runs down past the piston rings and ends up down in the crankcases.

Remove the float bowl and clean it out with spray carb cleaner, or remove the carb and clean it completely.

There could also be some excess oil in the crankcases, sometimes the oil will leak past the check ball in the oil pump.

When you start the engine, the breather is going to puke this goop out, so connect some hose to the two breather hoses that come out of the cylinder heads and route them to a container.

It has to be run in order to get the lube/fuel out of the crankcases (the oil in the tank is not contaminated, so there is no advantage to changing oil until the lube/gas is scavenged out of the crankcases) .

After is has run for a few minutes and the breather stops puking, an oil change would be in order.
