YES the Chicago weather is killing me and would enjoy a sunny and 40 degree day right now. I need to relocate to texas faster.

Hi Monkey55, I'm over by ONT airport and no ashes falling here.
The smoke and ashes are flowing SSW from the fire towards Long Beach and out to Catalina Island.
Yeah a bud of mine lives in Maine, one hour south of the Canadian border, and they are buried under 8 to 10 feet of snow and with the wind chill it is around -20 degrees.

That's why I still live in Southern California: where we just rock and roll, from the earth quakes, didn't feel the last one and the epicenter was only five miles from my house, and Smoke, from the fires...

Tony are you in the Chicago area? Typically colder up there than it is down here in Central IL but this has been a crappy year. I got to ride the Sunday after Christmas but she has been parked since, wasn't really any salt then here so I was able to get a few hours in.

Have lived here my whole life but the older I get the more I hate our weather. I will definately be retiring to a warmer enviroment, may even try to transfer once my youngest gets out of school.

Yea lemonade, I'm about 50 miles S.W. of Chicago or 20 miles west of Joliet on rt 80. It sucks and part is age too, every winter gets harder it seems.

I'll be riding in 49 days down in Daytona (can't frickin' wait!!) Here in Pa we have had snow or rain with tons of salt and cinders on the road since the beginning of Nov it seems. After my week in Daytona I will be on suicide watch for about a month until the spring weather starts to show up here.

I have zero first hand experience cutting up twisties in the Rockies. Also, to be clear this is also the first bike I ever even owned with EFI and not a carb so I don't know what to expect there either?
No problem going up and coming down out of the mountains. Bike will handle it just fine. August will be hot during the day and comfortable at night. Great riding weather. Take Trail Ridge Rd. up over the Alpine Tundra. Spectacular scenery through Rocky Mnt. Natnl. Park.

I don't like that mag chloride stuff either but it does the job I guess. Nice thing about it is w/in a few days of a snow storm you can be out and riding again as it doesn't stick around. Like others said you just gotta watch the sand which between traffic and street sweepers gets pushed out of the way fairly decent. I've been riding a lot this winter as it's been pretty mild. The heated gear helps too for those night rides home.

Hell yeah! Lovin the KTM - good times I think I should throw some screws in my KX (problem is there is 3+ feet of snow here and it ain't going anywhere soon)

Ya Tony, the only thing wheezing will be you up in the mountains. Bike will do fine, just less power for sure. It's always fun to do some floorboard rubbing on the twisties to. Was there last August and was reminded that I was 60 years old when we got up around 11,000'. Tried to walk up the trail to some monument and sounded like a like a choo choo train puffing along.
