Default 2002 Heritage Speedo replacement

I need to replace my original speedo but unfortunately the speedo for a 2002 heritage is obsolete. I want to replace it with a new/used Harley speedo/tach combo or a new speedo if I can find one. What I need to know is will the new/used speedo revert to the miles that are stored on the bikes computer when plugged in? The part numbers I'm looking at are: HD74461-03A speedo/tach combo and HD67033-99 speedo.

I believe when you order a new speedo through Harley they program the mileage you want into the speedo.

If you're looking in the Harley Accessory Catalog it does not list a speedo/tach combination for your 02. Your dealer can however supply you with the original OEM speedometer, HD Part Number 67033-99A. The dealer can also program the new speedo with your current miles.

If you want something more modern, look through JP Cycles. They have an endless number of products from many different manufactures.

A couple years ago they did make a digital speedo for the older Softails. It is no longer made, but there may be some old ones available at a dealer someplace.

The speedo tach is plug and play. It will show what ever the mileage was when you install it. If it has 103 miles and your bike has 12,000 it will show 103 miles. The newer ones are married to the CPU. They did change (the plug I think) in 2004, I know the 04's don't work on earlier models. I run one on my 1998 Softail but have to use an adapter kit.

Here is a Drag Speciaties one for $250.00.

And another for $230

And a Harley one for $300

I know you mentioned you would like to stay with OEM, but there are 2 options out there that I like, one is very close to OEM

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/730-648

its an autometer, so the quality will be better then OEM

the other is one I am going to use on my rebuild

http://www.jpcycles.com/product/560-837

Again, I am certain the quality of this is better then OEM as well

adachris, You speedo may be obsolete but they are out there! I just bought a NOS speedo for my 1997 Heritage Springer Softail, last week. Have your dealer check the Harley database for that part. They can give you all the dealers that have 1. You will have to do a lot of calling but you can find 1. The milage cannot be put on the new speedo as it is stored in the speedo. Newer ones are in the ECM.

Good Luck! Danner
