Thanks for the info guys. I think I was still in the "ballpark" with the knowledge I had but I wanted to make sure. I am not taking my heads off just to get head work done. My top end is coming off for other reasons and I just thought while they are off, to take advantage of that, and have the heads checked and to have them match my build. So, now, what are the differences between SE heads and stock heads? I have the SE heads.

I am not out to get more HP or Torque out of my build. If I get those added things, that's just a bonus for me. I am getting them done so that I get maximum efficiently out of my build. I want everything to compliment one another and to leave nothing on the table. The Dyno, the tune, is just to dial all of that in. I thought that was why the Dyno guy wanted a complete list of all and everything that has been done to my motor and everything put into it so he can better flow my heads. I have said it before, a Dyno tune on a build is like the a cherry on top of any build.

Default Heads

I went screamin eagle stage four every thing is matched for the build and no mis match if you talk to every one it just seems to get more confusing one guy will tell you this another that and if you do not know a lot about this stuff you will just be spindle top. I also believe if your going to do it do it all at once and be done with it.I went with the harly stage four which included heads cams big bore roller rockers push rods compression release and every thing needed for the build.Yea I know there are guys who like to mix it up that's fine my bike is a harley I went with there products and could not be happier. The next time around I am going to go with a Jim's motor and be done with that. I have been thinking about it but right now my bike is running tip top and I am leaving well enough alone. Should I have a problem which requires the motor to be torn down at that point it will be the Jim's motor and I know it will be a monster.

Thumbs up gettin head

Well it can mean anything from a basic valve job to a full port and polish. I have to tell a story about a 93" shovel I was building a couple of decades ago. I was working on the North Slope of Ak and was building a bike on R&R's. I'd sent my heads to Branch Flowmetrics for a port and polish and had them shipped to my folks place. My Mother told me on a phone call that something had come in for the bike that was shinny and pretty. Had to ask her where it was from and then had to tell her it was going inside the engine. She told me that was dumb. So when someone tells you their having their heads done there's lots of questions to ask: a port and polish; enlarged valves; shaved head gasket surface ; some also mud the intakes for velocity flow; dimpled intake trac; cc-ing the heads to match sizes; flowing the heads for cfm matching. I just had a set done by Dan Vance Racing. They were 110 heads he ported for a 124 S&S motor. He both improved performance and efficiency. I was getting about 43 to 45 mpg as a 96"motor in a Fatboy Lo. After the motor was turned into a 124 with 4 5/8 stroke; 58mm throttle body with larger injectors(can't remember size) I'm still getting the same mph. Improved efficiency I would say. You just have to choose the right porter and give him your expectations.

I also stay with Harley or SE in everything I do UNLESS I want or need something and Harley doesn't make. I have the SE heads and I was told they "were done" when I bought the bike but that tells me little. I have a receipt, from Harley, for everything that was done to or put on this bike except the head work.

I am taking the top end off to have them sent out for the Diamond cut on the fins and there is no way I would have these heads off without them going to my buddies "head guy" to have him take a look. I may need nothing more than having them cleaned up a little to a whole new and complete head job to match my bikes build. This guy also wants all the info I can give him on my motor so that he can better flow them to match my motor.

When I talked of making it "efficient", I didn't mean MPG. What I meant was to get every little bit of performance out of everything that has been done to this motor. I am also not doing it for more HP or torque either. If I do get better MPG, more HP and torque than that is just an added bonus. I firmly believe that when a motor is working at it's peak performance and everything is working in concert with one another that that adds life to a motor, it runs better, smoother and it also runs cooler. I know there are guys out there that gets 100K out of their bikes without so much as picking up a wrench but I am not one of those guys. I am one of the guys who couldn't sleep at night if I had my heads off and didn't send them in to get done!
