+1 on the magic eraser and the brillo pads! I also used / use Westley's bleche-white. When I bought my bike the tires were several years old and looked like they'd never been cleaned.. Ever! It took ALLOT of scrubbing over several weeks and washes but they finally got white. Never did get them bright white like my new ones but I was able to get them allot better than they were.
On my new tires I just use the bleche-white and a green scrub pad. Works great but you have to keep up with it.
Yellow white walls, mean old tire, i.e. not enough riding.
So to fix the problem, use lighter fluid.
Now I'm picturing soak'n the tires in lighter fluid and toss'n a match on 'em.
Now I'm assuming this is done off the bike, so you can put new ones on and ride them 'til they yellow...
Sarcasm is hard to read on the internet but my experience is that the yellowing comes from lack of regular cleaning, not wear. I've heard of using lighter fluid also though you just squirt some on a rag and srub the whitewall.
I used some stuff called "Bleche Wite" (yes that is spelled correctly, lol) and an sos pad. tire was yellow from previous owner and a little elbow grease and this combo worked great. I still use it whenever I was the bike.
Brillo pad with the soap already on it. Just watch hitting your wheels with it. Could scratch the chrome. Growing up, everyone in my family that had white walls used them. Now that I have a deluxe, I use them. It will not damage your white walls.
I tried a lot of other stuff like concentrated simple green. It doesn't really get them white. Some chemical cleaners will also soften the white paint and it will start to come off. Ive also heard a lot of people say that chemicals like Westley's bleche-white actually dries out the rubber and causes early cracking that looks like dry rot.
