Does your distance to empty show like it should or is it lighting up the yellow fuel light on your speedo too? That should indicate whether your are dealing with a float or a gauge issue. The floats on the 08-up come out really easy. just make sure your tank is not full to prevent mess if you have to go that route. Good luck hope it is a simple fix.
anyone know what is up with my gauge filled up and gauge went to ( E ) and gas light is now on, I had a half tank when I filled up ????????:icon_doh:
When you get your fuel level down to about 1/2 tank, remove your gauge cluster, then the nylon washered screws that hold the top plate and see if your float is stuck down, or is sinking. You may have a pin hole in the float itself (can't remember what the float is made of now). You may have to replace the top plate's screws and gasket if it leaks. I switched my tins 3 years after and reused them on mine with 0 leak issues. There is a specified torque pattern for reassembly that I found online or in my service manual. It appears you have a float problem. Maybe examine the wires for wear as your wires could be grounding out.

Has anyone ever removed the top plate on the tank to get to the float on a fuel injected bike?
I know the fuel pump is in there too. Was wondering how complicated it is and anything to watchout for?
