Has anyone removed the Crome belt cover on the rear left side of the bike, that covers the belt? I have to remove mine or my new bags will keep hitting it and it sound like crap. Will this damage the belt? or cause any other damage?
Thats a belt guard. it protects the belt from objects hitting. If the bags are hitting the guard, there's a good chance the bags will now hit the belt. Yes?

Just a heads up - but last year I had to have the belt and rear sprocket replaced under warranty.
Seems I picked up a rock or two during my local municipality's annual "tar-n-chip" campaign.
It must have lodged into the sprocket since it chipped a couple teeth and as a result, the belt was nicked up as well.
They found this during the 1K service inspection.
Anyway, the service guy made it a point to tell me that had I removed my belt guard (like so many do) they would NOT have covered it under warranty.
