01 Deuce, should it be done with bike leaned on kickstand or held straight up?

not sure what you mean by stick that moves? It is just the stock dip stick and bike didn't come with the owners manual or I wouldn't have asked. I did do a search on google also but bot sure I trust some of them answers.

Some bikes have the stick that moves when it on the stand it moves on an angle some have a rigid stick it does not move at all it's easy to tell all you have to do is take it out and you will know as soon as you do

My '05 is checked on the side stand, but I want to say the 2000-2003 models are checked with the bike upright. I can't remember where I read or heard that though.

Hopefully somebody with an older Deuce will chime in and confirm that.

My 01 softail owners manual says ride bike to warm engine, let idle 1 to 2 minutes and check upright and level.

The owners manual on my 03 says the motorcycle should be upright and level, so not on jiffy stand. It also says warm is what is important. Looks like the 01 & 03.
