Nightrod is bitchin, but take it easy at first and practice everything they teach you at the MSF while you are enjoying that good looking ride.

Only you can decide that. All the advice in the world will make no difference if you get a bike and are not happy. Test ride each bike, you will know what you like when you ride it, even after only a short test ride.

Test ride them and then decide for yourself. Only you know what you like and dislike.

Personally, I've never been a fan of getting a bike that's not your first choice and will probably sell within a year. But that's me.

TRAIN ALL THE WAY.

Sportster 883??? thats not even an option!

Night rod: maybe but its such a different direction and you can only change so much on them.

You can never grow out of the Train and you can never upgrade it enough to the point where you can say its "done"

good luck either way.

Well thanks for all the quick responses. alot of ppl suggest just to get a 1200 over 883 because i will outgrow it fast. To go more in detail, I def like the dark color lines ofe most of the bikes ,like nightster, night train,Night rod,Iron real ghost rider look lol I'm probaly looking to cruise around the city or town more often maybe go travel on highway/long distance once in awhile,so something comfy and pretty decent handling. Also as for is it for just a learner bike or to keep ,it depends on price . I was looking to spend between 3k-5kish used but i see some nice ones for round 7K ,i'll spend the extra 2K to get a night rod or something else i REALLY want . So if i see a banging deal , may just jump on it.Also something customizable Also just seen that new Street 750 in Capt America movie looked cool lol

I was in a very similar spot to you 10 years ago, and I was then pretty much the same age as you as well. I had never been on a bike, but had always liked the train. So I ordered one and then signed up for the MSF course. Bike showed up before the course, so I had to just be happy sitting on it in the garage waiting to learn how to ride it.

Bottom line is that you will learn to ride what you have. If you get an 883 then switch to a softail, you will still have a learning curve and need to learn how to ride the softy. You will also enjoy riding more if you are on what you really want, not what someone else thought night be a good "learning" bike. No such thing.

So here it is. Get what YOU really want. Don't settle for something because you think you need a smaller bike to learn on. That's a bunch of BS. Take it slow at first, ride with friends and stick at the back of the group so you can observe how everyone rides and handles different situations. Pay attention and you'll be fine.

I still have that train, looks a lot different than when I got it, but it has over 50k miles on the clock, including a 28 day 7500 mile cross country trip. I will never sell it. I got what I was in love with first and that was the right choice. Good luck, and be careful out there!
