Default Speedometer drive relocation

I have 95 Softail and want to move the speedo drive from the front wheel to the transmission. Is there a way to do this? I want to clean up the front of the bike.

You will have to have the hole and landing machined into the case.

You will also have to convert your speedometer from the mechanical type you have now to an electric speedometer as used from '96 up. '95 was the last year for the mechanical speedo on the Softail. The transmission mounted sending unit is a magnetic sensor that counts gear teeth, not a gear drive that spins a cable.

Once you get the electrical speedo, it will no longer fit the dash base and cover you currently have, so you will have to convert to the '96 later dash and warning lights and you will need to figure out how to wire everything.

Anything is possible given enough skill, money and time, but it won't be easy.

As I remember, the '95 Softail transmission has the boss cast in the case for the speedometer drive, but it wasn't machined to take the drive.
