Default Building 2005 soft tail standard

I am working on a bike with my dad. We have a small 3k budget. Looking to do new rims, exhaust, handle bars and paint the engine. Looking to maybe replace front and rear fenders. What models parts can we interchange form other Harley soft tails? I'll post some pics of his bike soon.

For the most part all Softails 00-05 will interchange, except Duece and Springer front end components.

Stay away from billet wheels or that will blow the 3K right there. Might want to consider powdering parts vice changing them out completely.

Have you looked at the 'Exile' softail standard, that thing is the nuts and the same look/concept could probably be achieved for 3grand if you put the labour in yourself. Russell Mitchell is super helpful if you ring him.

If you do want Billet wheels, check out Southern-mc.com. They have wheel sets, with matching rear pulley and brake rotors for $1795.00.

Shotgun Shock. That's almost half your budget right there. Powder coat the rest.

How much will the stock clutch and brake cables stretch. We are wanting to put on the 10" z bars.

I doubt they would stretch, but I took off the stock bars and risers on my 05 FXST and replaced them with Heritage bars and risers. Stock cables and wires worked fine.
