my pipes arent loud enough for me (stock pipes on 14 slim). would really like that loud and proud harley sound. would removing the baffles harm the bike in any way like with back pressure or anything, or should I save up for aftermarket pipes?
If you gutted the stock mufflers; baffles, catalytic converter, and whatever else is in there, you will just lose some performance due to the lack of back pressure. I bought Khrome Werks mufflers that look identical to the stock mufflers, but sound much better.
If you're strapped on cash, then gut the mufflers.
The rush slip ons will sound nice, I had them before my current system. I switched for the performance of my bike but these pipes sound great also. . You can hear them on YouTube vjt1695
If you really want a nice exhaust note go for a full exhaust. Its not cheap but well worth it. I was in the same situation and bit the bullet. After getting my D and D bobcat and running it for a while, I can assure you if i had bought slip ons, I would not be satisfied. Besides the sound a full system offers, your also getting a better looking exhaust and performance increases. Adding a tuner will probably be a good idea in my opinion. I know its another added cost but it really depends on where you are going with the mods to the bike. I think i have seen a slim on youtube with the Rb racing lsr-1 pipe if i remember correctly, and it sounded real nice! Good luck...
So many options out there, makes it tough to choose. I tried the slip on route (trying to save $$) which was better than stock performance and sound, for about a year. Installed V&H pipes last weekend and now the bike has a MUCH better note and performance. If I could do it all over again, I'd have skipped the slip-ons. Good luck in your quest.

I put Rush 2'' on mine at the 1k service along with the SE breather, SERT and dyno, that was 46k miles ago.. and I still love them
if you don't plan on doing anything else but the pipes for better sound.. then get some 1 3/4'' baffles and you won't have to do anything else tuning wise.
