Last weekend I was riding the Electrical System Lamp (red light right of the speedometer) came on and the 6th gear light went out.
I was about 60mph and 2100rpm's I think. slow down and then down shifted to 5th gear red light went out. shift back in to 6th rode for awhile and it did it again.
engine runs fine still shift great.
The owner's manual said to check light bulbs. all are working. Do I need to take the bike in?
Nothing else wrong? Check the battery cables. I have all manner of odd problems caused by a loose battery cable. If it continues, I would have it checked out. Electrical problems on a bike as electronically sophisticated as a recent Harley is, I would not want to mess with it.
Most HD shops won't lift a finger unless they can duplicate the problem. Otherwise it's like chasing your tail.
My wife's 2012 Heritage has had similar problems. She's gone through 2 voltage regulators now. It was security light, then no signals and brake lights, low beam didn't work but high beam did. She'd turn off the bike and turn it on again and everything worked as normal. She went through that for about 2 weeks then finally took it in, they pulled codes out and it pointed it to the voltage regulator.
First regulator went out 6 months after owning it under recall. that was a simple battery light showing on the dash, though. No crazy odd electrical zombies.
