Default Heritage on broken gravel

In the FWIW department: yesterday during a ride, the other couple decided to go strawberry picking. As we turned off the road, I noticed we were in a farm's driveway - irregular gravel with larger stones. Uh oh; hadn't done this before on the Heritage, especially with the wife on board. Ah well, committed now......

....well, the bike handled quite well, even at very low speed turning around because the place was closed. Bike jumped around a little but controllable and predictable......nice. Whew..... : )

A heritage is a great bike for gravel, as long as the surface is not to broken. Not enough ground clearance for big ruts or potholes.

And to those who haven't done this, . . . just stay away from the front brakes and you'll be fine.

Yep, my driveway is about 60 yards of gravel. That and various other adventures have had me on more than a bit of gravel on the Heritage. Low center of gravity, and not using the front brakes, all is good.

Anything with a wide front tire will handle good on gravel as compared to the narrow front tires which tend to feel squirrely. Ever try to ride a chopper on gravel ? I would never go back to anything with a narrow front tire.
