My wife rides a 2006 Heritage. She has a gap between her butt and the back of the seat when she rides. Otherwise she can't comfortably reach the shifter and foot brake. I want to purchase her a reach seat. I was wondering if anyone who has used a reach seat feel like they are more comfortable than the stock seat. Especially after riding 6 or more hours. Or would there be better alternatives. Thanks.
Take stock seat to custom upholsterer, tell them what you want/need, have them use Gelfoam, end of problem, better then buying anything else out there, custom fit to her dupa, same or every close to the same price.
Good advise using an upholsterer. The seat is comfortable enough for me so I can throw it on and ride her bike. So I don't want to modify the stock seat. I still need to purchase another seat, even if I need to take it to an upholsterer. Riding her soft tail feels like riding a sportster after lugging a touring bike around!
My main question is "Is the Reach Seat more comfortable than the stock Heritage seat". Thanks.
Yes it is. Way more comfortable.
I had a 2006 Heritage and when I put apes on it, I bought a reach seat. If was perfect, made all the difference in the world. I didn't have to stretch for the controls.
You can also get pullback risers and/or pullback bars. Or you can do all three.
I got a reach seat for sale that came off the 06 Heritage if you're interested. I haven't had the energy to sell it.

I have the HD reach seat on my Breakout. It made a huge favorable difference in ergonomic POSITIONING for me. BUT, it had a negative effect in that to achieve both the more forward and the lower rider position, it moved the sit point forward into an area where there was less height of foam available to begin with, and then also has LESS HEIGHT of foam (that is how they got the lower sitting position for us shorter inseam guys and gals). This made the seat great on smooth or moderate roughness roads, but causes me to bottom out in the foam on really bad bumps, which sends a jolt into my spine.
I fixed that by having a great local motorcycle seat builder install a gel pad in the seat. No more problem with jolts to the spine.
However, the seat ends up being notably firmer than the stock seat. This does not necessarily mean less comfortable for longer rides, but it does mean it FEELS firmer.
I had a Mustang reach seat and it was not even close to comfortable. I had a different Mustang on another bike so I expected all Mustang's to be comfortable, but it did not turn out to be the case. If it is a Harley reach seat, they have demos that you can try out.
