Default Windshield Question

Hi fellow Harley riders. I'm recently retired from 3M company in Brownwood, Texas. Got a 2003 Anniversary Heritage Softail that I love (it rides like a bark-a-lounger) and plan to put some miles on it.

I come from an adventure bike background so this is my first experience with a motorcycle windshield. I'm looking for a way to keep so much wind from coming beneath the (stock) windshield and blowing straight up from the seat. It's not a bother until about 60mph but sometimes I need to do 80 to keep up around here. At that speed, the updraft is near unbearable. Has anyone got a good solution to this? (besides "Slow Down!) :-)

Thanks. I'm proud to be here.

I have the fangs on my 04, I don't know the technical name for them. I can run 80 all day with no problems. only minor buffeting.

Welcome to the forum! I have an 08 Heritage and had the same problem for years. I finally installed the HD fangs and it got rid of maybe 80-90% of the buffeting. They are a bit fugly but they work.

Welcome to the world of HD and to the forum.

What you describe is called buffeting. The "fangs" that the others recommend are these:

I experience the same thing on my 2003 Heritage. There are times I can't keep up due to the wind buffeting. I am looking at the "fangs" but havn't pulled the trigger yet. Not sure on the look. Most times I try to stay off of the highway.

Good Luck. You will love your Heritage.

The buffeting returns when I put my feet on the highway pegs on my crash bar, except when I'm running my batwing fairing. Still not sold on the batwing yet. Doesn't really belong on a Heritage and the fangs work better. Just my

I have a Road King and had the same issues, it was so bad I had to wear goggles because my sunglasses bounced around so much I could hardly see. I got a Klockwerks billboard flare windshield and it made a HUGE difference in comfort, I went back to wearing sunglasses. I still did have air coming up from the tank causing beard lift, I put the fangs on and the difference is amazing. I'm not really sold on the look but have reached an age where function beats fashion.

Default Another possibility to cut down buffeting

Buffeting and updrafts are problematic. Hard to solve sometimes because they can be affected by so many things like your height, where you place your feet and arms, the curve of your windshield (I had a V-Star, stock windshield was a problem and the lower deflectors didn't do diddly).

Sometimes the Desert Dawgs Rain Guards/Wind Deflectors can make a big difference for not a lot of hassle - they are easy on, easy off (you need an engine guard bar to put them on though) - and they have other benefits like keeping rain off your legs and feet and bugs off your chrome. :-)

I had the same problem on my 2012 Heritage Softail. Above 60 it would actually lift my helmet. A set of "fangs" did wonders. Just completed a ride with friends from High Point NC to Myrtle Beach on Monday just to eat lunch. Round trip 416 miles. Over half the trip was at 65 mph + and had no problem.

IN all my 7+ yrs of reading and researching in here on Buffering.
MY final conclusion is ---- NO/NONE/NOTHING and I say again NO shield or Alterations to your present shield will do what the UGLY Fangs will do to stop the Buffering that comes up from the bottom,, on a Softail.

Nuff said and I agree will all that agree.
