I'm looking to purchase the samson true duals for my springer and have 2 questions.
1. do i have to replace my shift rod for the left side pipe to fit (i have seen a parts list for 2005 true duals and it shows a shift rod, is this still true of the newer models)
2. has any one heard the samson exhaust fishtail short s-430.
I do not know about the true dual header. I used Samson fishtail slipons on a harley crossover header system. I liked the sound alot. However about 7-8k of use and I started to have lots of problems with the baffles breaking welds and making a horrilbe sound. I now have supertrapps.
Not sure about the shift linkage on Springers but it is required on FLSTCs and it comes with the exhaust. The shift kit is shaped like a long L so on the trans side it goes down underneath the pipes. I had V&H bigshot longs on my ride prior to the Samsons and prefer the Samson sound over the V&H. It's hard to describe but the V&H have a unique tone that I have a hard time getting over but the Samson pipes have a great lower tone. So far, no problems with my Samsons.
Ihave the S2-430's on my 07 FLSTN,I did have tochange the shift linkage, I had a aftermarketbilletshift rodon before the pipe change and modified it to fit with the new pipe setup, not sure how your bike would work.
If you aren't considering the longer samson exhaust, I would think about purchasing V&H true duals. They are readily available, a great product, you don't have to change your stock shift linkage, and they look great on a softail.
