I am adding a windshiekld to 2014 softail deluxe. Tried the wind splitter smoked. I am a large guy and this is just to small. Any inspiration as to how to select the proper hieght standard windshield?

There are a couple videos on you tube that details how best to select the right height windshield. Basically you'd want to look over the shield and not thru it. I wanted a shield that was functional yet discreet so as not to detract from the style and character of my Breakout. Went with WindVest. Works for me.

Reason: spelling error
I have two windshields.
A small one for everyday use and a tall one for long rides.
With the small one, I see about 2-4" above it and it deflects wind pretty good for me and fair for my Wife on the back.
With the tall one (21" Klock Werks billboard flare) I look about 2" below the shield and it deflects the wind real well for both me and my Wife.
The downside as I've found of the taller windshield though is my mpg suffers a 2-3 mpg.
Also looking through the shield takes some getting use to, but I don't have problem with it.
I am 5'10", when I slouch I look through the shield but when needed I sit up straight and can see over. I slouch mainly and do not mind looking through the shield. Keeps the wind off of me more.
I tried the Klockwerks billboard flare shield on my fatboy. It didn't have enough recurve at the top of the shield. Also the center hole was drilled about 5/8" off center.
Returned it pronto.
Now I have two shields. for minimal coverage for everyday riding I have a Windvest recurve which is one of the highest quality windshields you will find. My second shield that I can use for better coverage is a Long Ride billboard recurve . I like looking over the shield instead of through it. Proper fitment for looking over the shield is the top of the shield should fall between your nose and upper lip. BTW both companies have a great product and fantastic customer service.

I'm a pretty good size guy and I just installed a 16" Long Ride Shield on my Deluxe late yesterday evening and took it out for a spin today. The recurve shield does a great job in directing the wind over your head. I order mine in the light tint, a lot nicer than the clear... IMO.
Now I just have to make up my mind on whether to purchase a set of lower wind deflectors that attach to the forks; I think some people call them "fangs".
