I'm not thrilled with my 422's. But they are better than the stock ride.....
Just curious, why aren't you thrilled? I got a fatboy lo that bottoms out and drives the wife's spine into the back part of her brain.
I considered SS, but too much money. I'm now trying to find as much info on the Progressives as possible...
thanks
422's will be A LOT better then your stock shocks IF you raise the rear suspension up like the Heritage and fatboy. About an inch. Otherwise, they will be some what better.
Take this for what its worth. If you wanted a "considerable/noticeable" difference in ride quality why would you spend money on something designed basically the same as what you currently have? Price matters I understand. believe me I do. air ride was cheaper that tax title and license for a new one! And you probably aren't eating very much so that has to be some extra pennies! Probably not, rabbit food is not cheap.
air ride vs stock shocks = night and day difference
stock vs progressives = night and later that night
That's my why not.
Price would be my only why "to"
Just my opinion. My night train had progressives. At the time I thought they were ok. but now I know......

Thanks for your feedback, its good to know. I was considering the progressive 422 RAP but have changed my mind because many people have said it was only a "minor improvement" over stock.

I had the 422s (non RAP) for a season. While they are a great product, and fit a different budget than air, this is also how I felt about them. Hence why they came off after only 1 season.
As I ponder the reasons why I want to upgrade my suspension I have to keep reminding myself why I bought a Heritage in the first place.
Other than the look, I think the main reason I went with a Heritage is because it's just a fun style of bike to ride for just about every purpose. However it's not a touring bike and no matter what mod I add to it, it will never be a real comfortable long haul bike and nor should it be. I wouldn't want to change it to something other than a softail.
So what am I'm really after? I'm after a suspension upgrade that will get me the best ride possible for the least about of money while not altering the function and ride characteristics that made me want the Heritage in the first place. I think an air suspension doesn't fill that order.
Well even though I do have doubts whether or not to upgrade to the 422s, I'm now about 90% sure that I am not going to go with an air suspension.
So seeing that I'm not going with an air suspension I'm back to having to decide whether to keep the stock shocks or go with Progressive 422 RAPs.
So my original question really hasn't been answered and that is "why not"
I guess I'll just have to keep doing my research and in the end just pull the damn trigger and hope that I'm happy with my decision.
In my opinion, any aftermarket suspension will be better than the stock one. That being said, the advantage of the RAP and it's adjustability without having to lay in the driveway is a deal maker for me. I have had Progressive shocks on all of my bikes in the past and the 422/RAP will be going on my current ride. The air ride option is not even a player in my book, costs way too much. Again, just my opinion.
Can you tell if your stock shocks are bottoming out? When I rode two up mine would so I cranked them up and that made a huge difference for her. I dunno man, maybe its time for a touring bike! My friend let me ride his road glide ultra on needles highway over memorial day. It was a nice smooth (powerful) ride!! Just ride and have fun! Why is the wife squeezing you I wonder? Does she feel like she will fall off? I imagine that would be very tiring no matter what shocks you have.

Haven't tried that yet. The Fatboy Lo is so low I can't get under it with my spanner wrench. I'm waiting to buy a jack, another few hundred friggin' dollars. I think that will probably do the trick, making that 2-up adjustment.
we now are offering the 422 shock with RAP with the standard rate springs.
Progressive Suspension.
I sure wish Progressive would take the time to "test" the 422's on the Harley Breakout
Every time I call for information or an update I'm given a very cold, short worded answer of "we don't make anything for the Breakout, sorry can't help ya" when many people here have them on their Breakout already.

Progressive Suspension.
The Wife and I went for a ride on the 4th and after the ride she said "let's upgrade the suspension because any upgrade has got to be better than the way it is now."
So today I ordered the Progressive 422 RAPs HD.
I went with the heavy duty due to our typical 2-up riding weight will be around 350+ and the only reason I'm upgrading is to increase my Wife's comfort so 2-up is my primary concern.
Anyway, we'll be putting them to the test during our "pre-Sturgis" Black Hills vacation the last week in July and I will post an honest review.
So if all goes as I hope, perhaps I can round up some business for Progressive at this year's Sturgis Rally.
I think Progressive normally sets up shop at Black Hills Harley during the rally.
