Why not just buy a touring bike in the first place?
Because Softails are much better looking bikes. Spend some coin making it ride better and now you have a better looking bike that rides like a Touring, still at a lower cost than a Touring.

I believe the HD is for weights over 250 lbs. which with your 190+130+60= 380 lbs. so you need the HD version.
As for swapping springs; you can send them to Progressive and they can swap the springs.

I don't recall stating what was quoted above but obviously from my signature picture I've taken on a different opinion.

Blueraven you never mentioned changing the setting on the other shock. It can be adjusted too. It adjusts like a stock shock. Since I am a light weight at 150 pounds ready to ride I got the standard RAP 422s. I have both shocks set at their lightest setting and they are still too firm. And I carry tools and some gear in my saddlebags. I have the mono tubes up front with no shims. Front is firm too. But the ride is a lot better than stock on my '16 Deluxe.

I did a followup on this but didn't link the two threads to each other.
But you are correct; the non-RAP shock can be adjusted just like the OEM ones and that certainly does change things.

Here's the link to my follow-up:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...til-today.html

I think if you're going to be riding 2-up you have to go with the heavy duty version.
Also, I found that after a few thousand miles, the shocks did softened a bit so I had to stiffen them up a bit from my original settings.

I think if all you going to be doing is 1-up riding and you're under 250 lbs. then the standard version is what you want.
But what do I know? I'd consult Progressive for the best advice.

I recognize this thread may be a bit dated; however, I'm tired of the occasional shockwave that shoots up my spine and is prevented by my helmet from blowing off the top of my head when a hit the worse-then-normal bump or pothole on my '12 Softail Deluxe. I've decided to go with the 422 RAP HD - now if only I could find them.
