I have been eyeballing the breakouts and was wondering how they were for passenger number 2? I have an 05 low rider with a mustang seat and even with the extra cushion, my wife gets maybe an hour or 2 before shes done. I thought the wider wheel base would be a little more to her liking and I really like the look of the bike. Still not sure if I could justify selling the old FXDL after all the changes I have made to it. But who knows.
Thats Always a question on Softails for 2up. (Comfort VS Looks)
On our Heritage my wife who has a bad tailbone and only weighs 118 needed more padding than the stock Thin Pillion. She couldn't ride 1hr before she's start having some pain, SO I added the bigger Thicker Touring pillion seat and Bigger sissy bar pad, then added floorboards for my wife to make it comfortable for her riding.
Now with the changes she can ride 3-4 hrs easy without any pain.
The narrow, thin Stock pillion seating area on the Breakout doesn't look like it'd be comfortable at all . I also don't think just having a bigger tire would help her comfort any at all.
Just check out my thread that contains some of the issues I respectively my OL found out about the stock passenger seat. That's why I got it redone by a local upholsterer...
Breakout - New Custom Passenger Pillion
I have been eyeballing the breakouts and was wondering how they were for passenger number 2? I have an 05 low rider with a mustang seat and even with the extra cushion, my wife gets maybe an hour or 2 before shes done. Your girlfriend or wife or both will scream bloody murder after ten minutes on the stock pillion. I opted to get the HD touring pillion which made her happy and gave me some peace and quiet....
Oh I intended to get a better seat on the back side for her. I guess my question is more along the comfort of the suspension for the passenger vs that on a bike like a dyna. All seats being equal between the bikes, is the softtail suspension more comfortable for the passenger or is there no technical difference?
I'm guessing that would also depend if you are coming from stock suspension on your dyna. I have only owned a Sportster before the Breakout so I can only compare from that, but the difference in ride was huge. Like others have said, the pass pillion is very thin, my wife calls it the maxi pad. But with a backrest and wider rear pegs she can go several hours before complaining too much, even on the maxi pad.
yeah suspension is the only thing I haven't changed on my dyna. I imagine it would be similar to a sportster...but I have never ridden one so couldn't contrast the two. Fatboy is the only softtail I've ridden and that was a short test ride. I guess its a matter of getting her on it for a test ride to see if theres a difference.
