Default 99 fatboy - petcock leaking... replace/rebuild?

my FB has been leaking for a "long" time...
want to fix it of course but how to go about it? rebuild kit (if they exist) or go with aftermarket petcock (seems to be available for 20-30 bucks, but according reviews fitment is sometimes a hit and miss on them for 99 fatboy.

anyone out there that replaced it successfully with an aftermarket version and if so, what brand, etc.

not my daily driver (actually "loaner" for my son and brother)... so not looking to spend a lot of money (OEM - believe over 100 bucks!!!) on it.

I've never seen a rebuild kit for an OEM petcock and wouldn't rebuild one even if a kit was available. You can find many inexpensive petcocks on the JP Cycles web site just remember, you get what you pay for. I've had riding buddies replace their petcocks with cheap units only to have them fail a couple months later. Get a "Pingel". Pricey but it will never fail.

Pingel's are the best, IMO, but there's no reason to spend $100 on a Harley replacement if you want stock. A cursory google search turned up OEM petcocks at around $50 - $65. All of my japanese bikes had rebuildable petcocks--strange that the HD wouldn't be?

Just put one on my 98 Fatboy, forget the vacuum one you don't need it, and just put on a new good aftermarket version. Just remember to shut off the fuel when not riding as they can fill up the carb. I don't always remember and have not had a problem.

Good luck.
