Default Heritage Back Rest

One of those good news/bad news deals. The good is the passenger seat is now way more comfortable due to Mean City. The bad is my wife now sits a little lower and the standard Heritage back rest pad hits her too high on her back.

I've looked through the Harley back rest/sissy bar collection, and frankly am not sure which way to go. It seems that the '14 Heritage comes standard with a 12" sissy bar, which is pretty low according to what is available. Not to mention its nearly impossible to determine how a new pad will fit....

...so my question to this august group is: any of you guys have any experience with this sort of thing and can offer a suggestion or two?

Thanks

Similar situation here.

Mary lowered her seat, then the backrest was uncomfortable. She took some of the foam out of that. Still not what she wanted.

We ended up moving the backrest back 3" on the fender struts.

Here's a pic- she now has plenty of room, backrest is now comfy for her.

Thanks Kevin.....interesting solution.
We will look into it - although I am surprised that there doesn't seem to be a bar/pad combination that is just lower.

The reason we did what we did was because as much as anything else, she wanted more room between her backrest and mine.

To lower her backrest you could cut off some of the metal posts that mount the backrest to the bracket, then drill a couple of holes, moving the entire backrest and sissy bar down some.

The other option is that you can get different backrests mounts (sissy bar) from HD.

I am looking at a few in the HD Catalog right now-

52754-04 (low)

52737-94A (short)

I did look at the short sissy bar, but it also seems like the only pad that fits it is a very short one that doesn't extend down enough...at least that what it appears.....

The Stock 07 pillion set up really sucked for passenger comfort.. The wife has a bad Tailbone (old injury) and she'd start hurting after 45 mins of riding.

Enter the HD oversize pillion seat which it about 1 1/2 taller and 3 in wider. At 118 lbs she needed the taller (more padding between her tailbone and the rear Fender) more than the wider, but it didn't hurt being wider.

Then I also got the Detachable Sissy bar and the Touring Sissy bar Pad (which is a Lot bigger than the stock pad.

Also added some FloorBoards so she could move around better...

After these mods for her on the rear she can now easily ride 2-3 hrs without stopping and without any pain when we do.
She's never complained about the sissy pad being to short or too tall. so it must fit her pretty good.

I then took the stock pillion seat and cut it down and recovered to make me a Back-Rest For my Solo riding out of it that matches the bags.. Its 7'' high and gives me really good support when I ride by myself...

Now we have a good set up for 2 up and my Solo Riding....
