Thanks, for the response, and the great pictures, showing what you started with, and then what you created out of it.

Ps. Is that a fatboy rear fender? Also, have you had any issues of your oil tank peeling?
Do not let collectibility affect your decision.

These bikes are NOT Ferrari GTO's. While the springers hold their value a bit better than most, I waited and watched and bought my Springer for what any 03 softail would have cost. The ones that are priced high stay for sale a long time. The ones that are the same price as a Softail go that day. I bided my time and got one same day it went on Craigslist. And BTW, Craigslist is where to find the bargains. Ebay is so widely watched that any bargains are quickly snapped up and converted to either crazy ridiculous prices (which happens a lot with Springers) or normal market prices. $1000 will separate a bike from selling that day and sitting 3-4 months or more.

Buy what you want and get your enjoyment out of it. When you are done with it, sell it.

It is not a human being. And it's not an investment asset. It's a super cool motorcycle made to be ridden.

Just be ready to spend 25% to 40% of what you paid for it in accessories....lol and a bike with good accessories will be more valuable and hold more value.

Isn't that the truth?!!! Lol. Closer to 50% in some cases . This is why I'm so reluctant to buy another bike because the thought of starting over again is a daunting thought, indeed....geez

Well here's the good news on that...which is particularly fresh in my mind.....

When I sold my RK to my buddy I told him I'd pass my great buy on the bike to him, and just charge him what I had in the bike. I could have waited and sold it for more, I bought it right. That whole bide your time and watch Craigslist and be the first one to respond...it really works..... He didn't have all the funds so I made a deal with him and kept a few of the mods I'd purchased. We were both happy with that; I just finished selling the mods yesterday, and to my happy surprise, I got about 90% what I paid for them, in some cases, 100%! I always try to buy right and I sold right too...not trying to make any money but I was surprised I got nearly what I paid.

Harley accessories really hold their value if you keep them nice. I've not seen such a resale market before. Even my aftermarket parts sold for nearly what I paid for them.

Any year springer is a good year, IMHO!

I'm the kind of guy that prefers the FL springer over the FX springer. From there, it just depends what you want. The Heritage Springer is a great bike, but the Springer Classic is great too. Same with the CrossBones. And the Bad Boy. And the CVO Springers...

Like I said, they're all great!

I have an 06 that I'm selling - I know, shameless plug. If you like to see more of it, there is a link in my signature about its build.

Musicnbikes, if you are looking for a Springer, it'll be hard to find a better deal that Redbeard's given all he's put into the bike.

If it had been for sale when I bought mine, I'd have been money ahead buying it given all I've spent and plan to spend on mine (including dealing with the cam followers and putting in new cams which he's done already).

I had to go out to the garage and make sure mine was still there.
