Stopped in to get a number on new rear tire, at first they argued with me over what bike I had when I said I had a fatboy and needed a tube an rim strip with the tire, ....like nooone here knows what bike they have....an none here mods they're bike........ (laced rims here).....then they wouldnt change just the rear when I specified a different brand than the front is. They said it gets the same tire or u change both, since when is liability the boss. Wtf, all I want is a tire, I will be adventurous an follow my manuel on changin my owne tire.

On tires, i find it much more reasonable cost wise to order over the net, free shipping many places. Check around, i have two good indys who mount tires for me all the time, no drama. But, as you mentioned, some you can change yourself. Ones with flexible sidewalls. I cheat and use an old skillsaw to cut the old tire off...dont cut right up to the rim, cut the last bit with metal snips,etc.. A set of spoons for changing doesnt cost that much either and is a good plan b...lol. Ride safe.

Without looking at the bike, everything they said was correct, because Fatboys don't normally need tubes. They are correct about the liability issue with mismatched tires, and with your overall attitude they should have just told you to go away.

Shouldn't make any difference if the front and rear tire are mismatched brands. One has nothing do do with the other..

Wrong, one has everything to do with the other.

A front tire that tracks differently that the rear can and will results in what we call "unexpected results" aka poor handling.

Simple fact.

Yeah really, no bragging here, just facts. Google it...

I worked at both dealerships and independent shops for about 20 years, I managed two. It is not a sales scam it is real.

I have rarely run same brand or type of tire on my bike for the past 87000 miles. And I have never had any issues.... Some of the bullshits some indy's say is really funny, mostly marketing ploy to get you to buy a new tire when you really don't need it....pure bullshit...

All I can say is I've been riding since the late 60's and never run across that one. And trust me I've run many a mismatched brand with no change in handling and no surprises. Something doesnt sound/smell right and Sounds more like myth than fact. Kind of like the old one about down shifting Harley's will shell out the motor.. Maybe the riders are the problem. Based on what I've seen riders do over the years I think I'd put my money there..

I felt it was a sales thing, on a car mismatched tires make it feel weird, like a tire is low, I would assume on a bike it would be weird too but not dangerous. I doubt further its their rules so to speak. Too many guys on this forum stated they have run mismatched tires, they arnt dead,

what cooked my nerves really was the mf behind the counter sayn I dont know what bike I got, when I asked for numbers including tube an rim strip, I said fatboy, he argued with me for 5 min before I took him outside an pointed to her. At that point I just left, ill change it myself, online is cheaper anyway
