Default Another question about tires!

Just bought a new to me 2010 fat boy lo with 4.7k miles. The dealership did the 5k tune up before I got it and they did replace the rear tire before I bought it But after riding about 500 miles with the past 3 wks I noticed a wobble that needed repair and is not covered under the ext warranty. Fine! However now they are telling me that my front tire thread is too low and needs replacement.

2 questions.
1) Is it worth an argument over the front tire not being replaced before I bought it, or could the 500 miles thrown me over the edge?

2)harley lists the front tire as being the dunlop d408. Which is about $230. However, I'm finding the american elite with the same dimensions for about $150. Are they the same tire? Is the differences only the HD name on the tire? Should I bite the bullet and spend even more money before my first financing payment?

Thanks

1) Unless you have a good relationship with the dealer, you win the argument.

2) They are different tires. If you have an Indy, he can probably get the 408 cheaper than the dealer. Or you can find them on line at one of the various suppliers and take it to get it mounted cheaper than what your dealer wants.

I would investigate other reasons for your wobble- steering head adjustment, wheel bearings, spoke tightness if you have them.

Go with the AElite, get a Indy to install.

You should get way more than 5500 miles from a front tire.. Not to mention more than 4700 from the rear unless you're competing in burn out competitions.. Sounds a little fishy.. Wonnle could be a smashed up. Wheel bearing.. I did that to my Fatboy lo after hitting a bad pothole late one night.

I'm guessing they are using the 3/32 thing, but if you've only ridden 500 miles since you got the bike and now 500 miles later they are telling you the tire is out of spec and/or causing the problem then you should tell them they knowingly sold a bike that had a hazardous defect, not street legal and they owe you a tire free of charge.

By the way, did they put a fresh inspection sticker on it when you got it? If so, you have them cornered.

And yes, if you don't ride too hard you ought to get 7-8K on the rear and about 20k+- on the front. If you front tire is gone after 5k something is terribly wrong (doesn't smell right)". My bike has a little over 50k miles on it and I'm on the second front tire. It still has some pretty good life left in it.
