Looking at changing out exhaust on my '01 Fatboy. Want to get best low end torque and quiet it down a little over current Road Rage. RR sounds great on highway, but is pretty loud around town. Thinking of getting away from the stepped header setup, as I have seen my torque shift to the upper RPM's since going from 1-3/4" header design 2-1 to stepped headers. I know everyone is big on the stepped header, but I had better low end grunt before. Considering Hacker Warheader with quiet option - seems to be a nice deep sound and when you get on throttle, you get a nice rumble. Spoke to owner and he is pretty helpful, but I am hoping to get some real user feedback.
Hacker claims better #'s than Thunderheader, but the few dyno sheets on their site show a pretty big dip. Ronnie Hacker told me the quiet option gets rid of the dip and Thunder Press did a review, but I cannot find it. I love the sound of TH and would go that route, but afraid they will be too loud with the added compression of my engine. I really like the simple baffle mod that can be done to the TH to help reduce the torque dip common with 2-1's. Considered Fatcat with quiet baffle, but I had one for a brief time and it dragged everytime I made a right turn. Also thought about SuperTrapp, but not sure I would ever be happy with the sound.
