I usually just replace'em....But I agree that a small clean nail hole that doesn't involve the sidewall would be fine to patch.

Pardons, perhaps I just don't know other bikes, but I thought a Road King was tubeless?

Anyway if there is a tube, then I agree to just replace the tube.

Youre right. I was thinking spoked wheels. Given what I said earlier, I'll vote for the new tire on tubeless..

Im not sure if his tire is tubeless or not...I can see if there is a tube then just replacing the tube would be in order (tread is still good); however if it is tubeless and the hole is small and clean, I am encouraging him to just replace the tire.

Thanks!

I have my bike in for service and they found a nail in the rear tire, which still has plenty of tread. I bought it this summer.

Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series
Rear - D402 MT90B16 74H

I am going to replace it in the spring. If anyone wants it, let me know and I will give it to you for shipping or if you live near Sauk City I could leave it at dealer, or you could pick it up by me in Nekoosa.

On my fourth at 12500 miles. Warranty worked out pretty good.

You can't go wrong with replacing the tire; however, my experience has been that an average nail hole in the tread is safe enough to patch. My rear fatty is a nail magnet and I've patched several tires like I patch my car tires - with careful consideration. I've never had a blowout due to patching and I've never known anyone who has. A patch failure will almost always leak air slowly enough to be dealt with on my terms.
