If they made the Heritage with an option to have the chrome studs or not they might sell a few more. Call it the Heritage Plain.

Thru the years, starting in the mid sixties I have had all size frames, first either a 125 or 165 (cant remember) then, Sportster, Dyna, Softail (Heritage), Road King, Electra Glide and now I am back with the Heritage to stay. I have test ridden a Fatboy, but the Heritage 'fits me better'.

Fatboy all the way.

Heritage is a bagger. I did not want a bagger. Even if you take the bags and windscreen off, you still have the whitewalls and studs. Great bike, but not my cup of tea. If I ever do a bagger, I'll get a RK or an Ultra.

Saggy bags and studs all over the thing! I prefer the sleek look.

I compared the two at first. It was pretty easy actually-the Heritage has bags and windshield and spokes instead of the fugly solid wheel. I also liked the nostalgic look. Mine didn't come with whitewalls but has them now. So then I compared between the RK and Heritage. Now that was a tough choice, but the Heritage won out because you can strip them down easily and totally change the look. I can have the windshield, bags and seat off/changed in less than 5 minutes. I can go from 2up touring to solo easily. Now that I have the Ultra, I haven't had the windsheild or 2up seat on it in over a year.

Funny, when I went looking for a heavy twin, I went looking for a fat boy (because that's all I knew). I even had one picked out at a dealer, but when I finally decided to go for it, went there to find out it had been sold. SO, I looked at the other bikes and this red Heritage just... spoke to me. I ripped all the bags, seat and windshield right off and went in another direction (as you can see in my sig). Wouldn't look the same as fat boy (though I do like that 200 rear tire.)

I've always lived in a "Biker City" & my ideas about motorcycles are influenced from the 50s through early 70s. The Heritage certainly brings me back to when I was a kid & I do like it, but I'm not big about saddlebags on a Softail & I don't like the studs, fenders, or spoke wheels. Plus, I like the stripped down look. So even though the Heritage has a lot more bang for the buck, I went with another Fat Boy.
