Leaving in the AM after a week at MBBW. Being from the northeast my first impressions are this. The people here are awesome, very friendly. The festivities are pretty spread out, so traffic isn't as bad as, for instance, Laconia. The riding isn't as good as other places I have been. We did a ride down to Charleston, a beautiful city. The ride down was a dead straight line on hwy. 17. No curves, no hills. You could probably set the bike on auto pilot and get there. The weather here is great, 70-85 all week, plenty of sunshine. If your not out on the bike you can easily hang on the beach or at the pool (or the bar). Most of the bikes ride pretty cool, no ore than 5 over the speed limit. I was talking with local LEO who stated that they had 3 fatals so far, pretty low compared to Daytona or Laconia. My understanding is at least two of those were the fault of cages, one guy got hit from behind and another had a truck pull out in front of him. These are just my observations for anyone who is considering this trip in the future. I will be back.
My 2007 MBBW experience pretty much matches yours. Things went well the whole time I was there.
The single exception were the few dummys who decided everybody needed to be awake between 12:00am and 4:00am....so, they blasted up and down the road! [&:]
I'd say that my first impressions are;
Cars should be outlawed at Bike Week.
The MB Speedway should open the dragstrip for the speedsters and the load pipe battles.
Outside lanes should be bikes only.
This has been the most fun I've had at the beach in probably forever. Usually I'm waiting for something fun to happen and get bored easily. All I had to do was leave the room and mount the Harley and the fun as on!
I'll be back next year for this one and am looking at the calendar as I write this to see what other events are coming up that I can check out.
Downsides at MB are TRAFFIC, and no place to take a leisurely ride fora few hours.
You bring up a good point, in Daytona they had the outside lanes for bike only, in MB they had signs up that said bikes only in the right lane just nobody around to enforce it, way to may cars, way to may people who could care less about turning into your lane. All in all a great trip, met up with some nice folks from the forums. I also noticed gas prices went up about $0.40 in 7 days.
