I'm planning a trip to NC this summer. I plan to take some time and ride the Dragon. Any suggestions on places to stay, see, best time of the summer (I'm thinking either June or Auguest). Are there other ride suggestions. I'm also planning on traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I notice you're a PGR member. We will be having the TN PGR Gathering of the Guard June 5th - 7th over in that area. It will include a 170 mile ride that covers the Dragon, Foothills Parkway, and the Cheroloha Skyway.
There are many good places to stay in that area. I'll be happy to answer any specific questions.
Check out the Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge in Stecoah, NC and the Phillips Motel in Robbinsville. Pros and cons to each but both are great places to stay dependending upon your preferences and budget. Have stayed at both. My first pick would be the Iron Horse, but it is a bit off the beaten path, but beautiful location and great food.
WE go up that way in mid Sept. after peak summer and before the leaf watchers. Lots of places to stay then and all are motorcycle friendly. Check out Bryson City, Cherokee, and Maggie Valley. Plenty of Motels and things to do.
Check out the Kickstand Motorcycle campground. Affordable and nice. I stayed there last year and had a great time. Cleanest showers and bathrooms I've seen in a campground. And Moe makes a good supper at night to eat around the fire. It's by Fontana dam and not far from the dragon and deals gap and the Blue ridge. www.kickstandlodge.com
i usually stay at the microtel there in robbinsville. they are biker friendly and the parking lot is well lit. they are only about 10 min from the dragon. have a good ride.
