Pete,

I live in Bloomfield and get to Alb. regularly as my Grandkids and their parents live there. We ride down a lot of the time, and I'm always up for a ride. I'll be in touch.

Regards,

Bill

I hate you guys. We used to live in Rio Rancho (Amethyst Dr. I don't remember the Sub division Name) 92-96 courtesy of Uncle Sam's Navy. We loved it, I got transferred and had to leave (back to sea) My family and I sure do miss it , I'm retired now (well, from the Navy) and we keep saying we are going to come back (at least to visit). I can't imagine how it has changed in 10 years. If we get out that way (we're talking about this summer or for Balloon Fiesta) maybe we can get together. Hey, did Chicks H/D sell? I had heard they were, but didn't hear anything else. Be safe and enjoy the riding out there, I sure miss it. Joe

Hasn't changed much - Just another 100,000 people or so... It's amazing how much it's growing. You can almost drive from Bernalillo to Los Cruses without ever knowing that you left the city.

Chick's HD did sell out to some guy from Florida that owns a couple of dealerships over there. He took ownership on December 1st. Rumor has it that he is going to change the name to Sandia Harley Davidson. Is that lame or what? Should have been Rio Grande HD or Duke City HD or something cool like that.

Oh well, whatcha gona do?

Paul,

Hadn't heard about Chick's selling. I guess all my old Chick's stuff will all become collector's items.

I'm with you on the name. Sandia sounds kinda lame. Maybe if you got a petition going among the riders in the area you could sway the new owners to use something different. I'm not crazy about Duke City, but I do like Rio Grande. I could go for Kokopelli too. Then they could use the little Kokopelli rider guy that Chick used to have.

Maybe some of the guys that work at the dealership could sway the owners if some of you put a bug in their ears.

Does it look like there will be any big changes in personnel? I really like some of the guys (Mike Lavato, and others) that work there and would hate to see any of them go.

Regards,

Bill

I kinda hate to see the name change from Chicks to anything else, I like the Rio Grande name too, (a whole lot better than Sandia) but like Bill said, what cha gonna do? I remember Chick's old shop on Central, it had a feel to it, like a H/D dealership should have. The new shop was pretty but lacked that feel. They did put up with me (at the time a wanna be) for a long time and were good people. All the best to them and theirs. The area really grew in the 4 years we were there, I guess we were part of the growth though. Well, enjoy the riding out there guys, I'm envious. One of these days, I'll get back out there, if only just to ride the Jemez route again. See ya and Merry Christmas. BTW, we did get a whited Christmas this year, it's been long time since we have and it sure is pretty. Still friggin cold though. LOL

Hey Bill,

No word yet on when they are officially changing the name. Everyone over there seems to be keeping their cards close to their vests. As far as personnel go, there were a few that jumped ship. I think that Mad Mike is gone, and a couple of parts guys. I don't know too many mechanics so I can't say for sure. Amanda and most of the other girls are still there. I will tell you this though. The new owner has made them all wear the same bright red HD shirts, which everyone from the mechanics to the salespeople hate. Funny the new owner gave them one shirt each to start with, so most were forced to wash it every day. Oh well...

Anyway, I like the idea of changing the name to Kokopelli HD. I remember the little Kokopelli rider. In fact, one of the guys carved it into a pumpkin this Halloween.

I will ask around to see what some others think about the Rio Grande or Kokopelli name.

Paul

I know what you mean about riding through Jemez. The weather has been so mild here that we were able to take a ride through Jemez up through Los Alamos in late fall. It was perfect. The leaves were just changing color. That's one of my favorite roads in the state.
