Wear ear plugs! We've been recommended to do that since the 1970s, but the advice still ain't getting out there. Your bike is fine, it's you that needs help, not the bike. My 883 Sporty is fine cruisin' at around 90mph on stock gearing.
It's the bike. I have owned a number of bikes and still have a Kawasaki Concours & Vulcan 1600 Classic.
I would really like to be able to take a longer trip on it, but this Sporty as its geared ain't cutting it.

Your Sporty isn't a 1600 and will happily run at higher revs all day every day!

Same with the Concours.....but that red lines at 12k.
The 1600 at 80 is pulling 3100 rpms. The Sporty is around 4000, same as my ex wife's Honda Sabre 1100.
There is a lot of wide open (boring)roads in Texas and would like to drop the cruising RPMS down some.
Travelling at 90 or 60 we should all wear ear plugs, anywhere except around town. The science was done forty years ago and they are the best tuning aid known to mankind. Life on a ride out will be much more comfortable and the many extraneous noises we are all subjected to while riding, including that happy purring engine, will be reduced to more comfortable levels. The false impression that the engine is screaming will be dealt with and plugs come at just a few cents a pair. Much more effective than changing gearing. The only changes I have made to my Harleys is to shorten gearing for improved performance, not lenghthen it!

I agree. When I did an ironbutt on the bike in my sigpic (very loud) I had a fairly quiet full face and ear plugs..............I heard nothing
