Baffles?
Someone posted, either here or on another forum, that they cut them out with a hole saw. They then modified the baffles and re-installed them using a welder.
Way too much hacking for my taste. I agree with Johnny. If you can't core them out, get some aftermarket pipes.

I was going to get some pipes but some guy's had told me if i just wanted to make it loud i could drill out my baffles so i will ask them again on how to do it and tell yoou guy's and i will see what you think.
My opinion is they sound like crap after the baffle plate is drilled out. I did it on my 04 883 and like almost everyone else I wound up getting a new exhaust system. It may make them louder ,but doesn't give you a deep rumble . If you want something really loud ,go with 2 inch drag pipes like Samson Big guns II . Vance & Hines also makes a nice sound pipe, and many styles to choose from.
It's funny how we all hear so many different stories about what sounds better. The shop manager at my dealership told me that they remove stock baffles all the time by drilling them out. Said they would do it for $50 and they do it all the time. (Dont tell the EPA) He and another guy who work there said they sound awesome bored out like that. I was told they have a very deep rumble but not overly loud. He told me they have more rumble then SE's but the SE's are louder. I asked him what the better sound was; Sceamin Eagle pipes or to bore and he said its a matter of preference. He said he'd be happy to sell me SE's but suggested I try boring them first to see if I like them or not. He said $50 bucks wasnt much and if I didnt like it, I could rumage through his dumpster out back and find another set of stock pipes to keep. I'm probably going to take him up on his offer but I am not quite ready for my Stage 1 mods yet but I will be in another month or two. My only concern is who to believe, I guess the only way to find out is to try and see. For me, I'm looking for more rumble and throatier sound without going deaf. My ears are bad enough already..lol. One other thing, he let me listen to a 1200C there with Vance and Hines on them and they sounded killer. He said those are the aftermarket he recommends first. Good luck either route you go.
It is all a matter of preference, I drilled out my stock pipes first to see if I liked them. I don't remember how long the bit was, but you can measure the outside of your pipe from the back to where it starts necking down again. Then get the drill bit size you want. I used a 3/8 inch and drilled 4 or 5 holes in each pipe. They were louder, and the bike a little more responsive. I ended up just staying with them. Good luck however you choose to go.

I got to listen to a 1200C w/ the baffles bored out. They are definitely louder, I'd say about the same as SE IIs, but I didn't like the sound as much. Its been a few weeks, but I remember I wasn't thrilled w/ them, and it seems they were more cacky than throaty, if that makes sense.
Who knows... find someone w/ them and take a listen. That's why I haven't done anything, I'm waiting till Fall Bike Week to listen to some and see what I think.

On my 05 883C I went with SE II's then took baffles out of them got louder but was rhaspy then I bought V&H straitshots HS not super loud at idle but 1/4 throttle and up very troaty and loud with the baffles still in. The power difference with stage 1 and proper tunning made a real difference.
