I am trying to help my brother in-law work on his 2006 Sporty 883 and I am stumped. It was spitting through the carb at idle and slightly off idle. When he first got the bike it was leaking fuel from the oem petcock after having been sitting owned by the previous owner for one year. We rebuilt the carb and my brother in law replaced the petcock with a gravity fed one and capped of the vacuum line from the petcock to the carb. He explained to me that it was still popping at idle and it was getting harder to stay running. Well,I came over today and changed out his slow jet for a 45 thinking that a little bit richer jet was in order for his stage 1 air cleaner and pipes. It still is popping like crazy and no longer wants to stay at idle. I have adjusted it so that the carb is properly tuned and when he rode it it ran fine when under load. I checked spark and it's good. Plug gaps are within the spec. It has fuel. I don't see a vows switch and that was the first thing that came to mind was that him changing out to a gravity fed petcock was not allowing it to function properly but I don't see a vies on this 2006 model. My best guess at this point is to put a vacuum operated petcock back on it. Jets on it now 175 and 45

Check for a vacuum leak, /there is no voes on a 06 it has a MAP sensor on the intake manifold.
What all did you do to the carb?
He hd it too rich. I put the stock jets back in and it's running well. I have the vacumm port to the carb capped off properly. I am still not too fond of the gravity fed 20 dollar petcock
