Default EVO dumping fuel

Hello,

I just finished restoring/rebuilding an '89 883. Completely tore the bike apart and rebuilt. Today was the big day, and it started! Only one small problem...

Once running it began dumping fuel from somewhere underneath. Not like a small drip, more like a fire hose. I shut the bike off and closed the petcock and it ceased, but I still couldn't find where it was coming from.

Any ideas on what I might have forgot to connect, should have replaced, etc...?

I know this is a very vague question but any input is much appreciated. By the way, this is my first post.

Thank you.

Chad

Did you disassemble and clean the carb by chance? Sounds like the bowl is overflowing due to a stuck needle or misadjusted float.

like ecvjohn said, sounds like a leaking float overflowing the carb. If you don't see fuel dripping directly out of the carb on the engine, it's probly going through the overflow hose on the carb that is ussually routed under the frame. Most likely you'll need a simply carb cleaning, take the bowl out and inspect the float needle and seat to see if their in good shape, and clean or replace if necesary. And if you did already clean the carb, perhaps you assembled it incorrectly or didn't set the float level correctly.

Thanks guys, I'm sure you're right. I took it apart to clean and it was pretty nasty, sat for 8 years. I did not adjust the float when I put it back together though.

Is this a relatively simple task? I have the manual, I'm pretty sure it explains...
