I will picking up my 04 1200R model soon.(the bike in my sig pic) Although I absolutely love the single seat look with no sissy barand would love to go that route my wife can't wait to ride.Even thoughI doubt we will be on any real long trips right now I am not sure the seat that is on the bike will be too comfortable for her. I plan on getting the HD short sissy bar at least. But what 2 up passenger comfort seat options does anyone recommend, and still keeping the cool factor intact. ( I mean one of those King and Queen pillow tops is definately out of the question. No disrespectto anyone has one,Although I am sure they are comfortable its just not the lookI amgoing for )
Any recommendations? Also remember a picture is worth a thousand words.
Ahh the age old question. It's obvious from that most people like the HD Sundowner for comfortm but to me it just looks too bulky. I tried the Mustang daytripper, but it put me too far back from the controls and the passenger comfort wasn't really there. I bought a LePera Sorrento, but the darn thing won't fir snut. The only thing that holds the seat on is the screw in the back, unlike the mustang or stock HD seat there is no area for the bolt on the bike to fit into.
The Mustang fastback seat would give you a one piece seat with sleek looks but the passenger portion would not be as comfortable.
You might also look at teh mustang vintage std. (not the wide) and separate pillion which is what I have and you can see in my gallery.
Its very comfortable for both and looks pretty good when you want to go solo, only downside is that it sits you about .5-1" higher.
You could also look into seats by www.ccseats.com or www.harleyseats.com lots of options to look at. Is alwasy nice going to bike events and looking at and sitting on other folks seats (with their permission of course). The HD sundowner may be a comfortable seat but is far from sleek and goodlooking and it will sit you higher yet that most seats out there. Look at it this way, whatever you buy and try if you don't like it someone will always be glad to buy it on ebay or forum classifieds.
Thats a good looking bike and you will no doubt be very happy with it.
Originally, my bike had just the stock solo seat (aka 2 x 4) I added the passenger pillion and bitch bar. It looked pretty good with that setup. Unfortunately, the passenger seat was plenty comfy, buy my a$$ was still stuck on the stock solo seat (aka 2 x 4) I finally went with the Sundowner, which is somewhat more comfy for the passenger, but exponentially (means a LOT better!!) for the rider (aka ME!!)
Attached link is a pic with the stock solo seat (aka 2 x 4) and the passenger pillion, with the bitch bar and pad. Not sure why I couldn't just add the pic in the msg.
Oh yeah, and the bike did look a lot better with that setup before I added the luggage rack on the back, but that's now a can't live without item.
Mustang my wife likes riding with me since I got the Mustang seat last year. We did a trip to Vermont last fall 3 hours each way, 120 miles yesterday riding with friends.

Hey Matt, your set up is exactly the way I want mine. how hard is it to add the pillion? What keeps it in place? And can you get a sissy bar with that set up?
I have a stock '03 883r seat.I also have a sort backrest with pad.My girl likes the backrest but the seat tappers and she says it should be wider for more comfort. Her butt isn't big either so I sat back there and it is kinda small.I wouldn't mind a mustang seat but I cant see spending the $$$ cause the stock seat to me is just fine.If she wants more comfort SHE should buy the seat.
Let me ask. On those last couple of seats you guys recommneded how easy is it to remove the passenger pillion or is it something that is connected permantly? If it does remove is it a quick process or something that takes a bit of work. (I just can't quite get over the single seat look especially when riding alone)
Also thanks for the link to the ccseats website capptawes.I think the sport tour they offer may be close to something I wasthinking in my mind.
It appears to wider than the fastback type of seat currently on the bike. The black flames stiched in leather wouldn't look too shabby either on my bike since it already has flames.
Only takes 10 seconds to pop the pillion on the front mounting (barrel type washer that the pillion slips onto) and then put the screw in the back tab and your done. Heres the link to the mounting instructions from Mustang... http://www.mustangseats.com/sportste...er_mt0405.htmlWhen I go solo for a long period I usually just remove the mounting washer and rear fender bolt for a cleaner apperance but thats only an extra 20 seconds to change out but most people just leave them on permanent. As for using a backrest, I've not ordered on yet but have been told the med. low harley one fits fine but not the real short ones. Also if you get a wide pillion pad (they offer it in 8 & 12" widths I think) the sideplates rather rigid or detacheable would rub the side of the pillion. I run with mine as a solo seat 98% of the time and only put the pillion on when the Mrs. decides to go for a ride. Until we get a backrest she won't ride far or long.
I like the CC seats sporttour myself but I've seen an overhead shot of one and unless they modify it for you I think the nose of the seat is a little wide (as wide as a stock seat) and this would spread your legs apart more which is bad if your short when you put your fett downand for meif like the stock seat in the front it put pressure on my legs and cut the circulation off over time. I've heard good and bad about their seats as for long ride comfort but have never personally sat on one. Prices are good though for leather seats.
