So I have a mustang fastback seat on my 1998 sportster. And I notice it gets a little uncomfortable after 50 miles or so.
I'm not a green horn. I ride daily. But I notice on longer trips I start to squirm around
You'd think a 300$ seat would be a little more comfy.
I want a solo seat. Anybody got any recommendations for a good seat that doesn't break the bank that I can ride a little longer on without a sore rear end.
There are plenty of threads about seats, if you simply use Search for 'seat'! Mustang wide touring gets a thumbs up for comfort. You can of course have as many seats as you fancy and swap them around as you want!
Swapping seats is spendy at 200$-300$ a pop. My buddy told me about la pera gel seats. But that's another 300$ seat. Just don't want to lay down the cash for another seat that's gonna be a pain in the rear.

That's seats for ya! Unfortunately seats are as much a fashion statement as most other Harley stuff and it is a challenge to sift through such stuff for the truly functional. You could look on Ebay and elsewhere for a secondhand one or bite the bullet and get a new one pdq.
My local dealer has 'demo' seats they'll swap in and let you take for a day or so to try out before you buy. Perhaps a dealer will do you the same favor.
Seats are very personal. What's good for the geese might not be good for the gander. I've had the HD reduced reach solo seat.....worked for a year till I started taking longer rides. Then my tailbone would start killing me. Then tried a Mustang solo Daytripper...terrible seat for me. Very hard and I just knew this seat was NOT going to break in. There was barely any padding on it to begin with. Then finally, after much debate with my inner demons, I got my Corbin Classic Solo seat today. I went on a short 40 min ride around my hood and it was pretty ok it just has to break in hopefully, but the support is there. Good bracing and firm but not rock hard at all. Now this seat I realllly hope breaks in well. If not, they have a policy to return it to them and they will make free adjustments to it to make sure it's perfect. The next week or so should tell me if this seat will work. But so far great quality and the fit and finish is nice!
no such thing as a cool looking comfy solo seat for the sportster. unless it's a minimum of 4" thick. gel or no gel. personally, I think the gel pad is a scam, there's no difference in comfort in the end. just financially. you have to decide if you want bulky and comfortable or cool and your *** hurts. I figure my *** will be hard as a rock by the end of the summer lol I ordered a biltwell sporty-8 raw pan and customized it with a gel pad & leather cover. it's not horrible, but definitely not "comfy" but I can live with it. i'm afraid to sit on a sporty-8 seat that is stock because the gel pad is unnoticeable and I might have wasted my time making my own seat... that being said, it's better than a stock HD seat and looks cool.
P.S. I think riding position has a lot to do with *** comfort. apes are probably way more comfortable than drag bars.
