Hey guys thinking about painting my 48 flat black. I have a couple of questions. What is a reasonable price and will the frame and everything have to be painted to look good. I think I know the answer lol but I am hoping I am wrong. Was hoping to just paint the tank back fender and two side covers. I have been looking at pictures of newer flat black irons and it looks like the forks and frame might be regular black paint. But Im half blind. Does anyone know this answer?

What looks good is completely opinion, but i think if you paint your tins, oil cover, and battery cover flat that will look good and be enough. Price I dont know. Never had a bike painted. i would do it myself, but i know how to paint properly and with a gun. Have you considered painting it yourself? flat is a little easier to paint then gloss.
just look at a stock flat black sporty, frame is gloss and so are the fender struts. im going to do a search if someone has flat black tins with gloss side covers.

Airfrmaer just my opinion but I think that looks unfinished. I do this i can get away with just the tank, back fender and sides though. ! quote so far is 800 but I have to disassemble it. Not looking forward to that.
I think a combo of flat & gloss black looks great together. In fact it would be my preference over all flat black. A friend of mine even did his truck in a flat/gloss black combo and it's awesome.
The good news is that you don't even need to repaint your tins. You can simply wet scuff the gloss down with steel wool (grade 0000, 0001, 0002, 0003, or 0004). Or you can wet sand with wet/dry sandpaper (2500, 2000, or 1500 grit). Scotch-Brite is also an option.
The lowest number steel wool will dull it less than the highest number.
The highest number sand paper will dull it down the least.
I'd start by dulling the least. If you want it duller, go to the next until you find the look you like.

That is what I said. I just wanted to show an example with out the side covers flat for a visual of what it would look like.
