Default Question about new mufflers

Hi All,

So I am trying to upgrade my recently purchased 2014 Iron 883. Bought new Vance & Hines Straightshots HS Slip-On Mufflers.
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/v...ster-2014-2015

Since I wanted to learn, i decided to do it myself. I realized that the new mufflers out of packaging did not have any baffles. Is that normal ? (Also, I've never really held a baffle. But googled to see what they look like and new muffler just has a giant tunnel hole)
Will that affect the bike's performance or harm the engine.
I already have them installed and they sound amazing. I don't see difference in performance yet.
Vance and Hines do sell the quiet baffles as optional for these mufflers. Should I install those?
Please look at the pictures. The first image is the stock muffler. The second image is the new V&H muffler.

Any help would be much appreciated.

They look just the job to give your Harley the sound it deserves.

It is generally acknowledged that provided you don't change the air cleaner you'll be good with those slip ons without having to tune or adjust the fuelling.

The left picture is a catalytic converter in the stock muffler.
The right picture is a louver core baffle.
Quiet baffles would take some of the sharpness out of the exhaust note.
They will generally reduce decell pop also if you have any.

Might want to read a little here about extras needed once the exhaust is changed out.

I have V&H Straightshots on my 2003 883r, been on there for 10+ years

I NEVER get decel pop.

But I tuned the carb and put in bigger, better jets.

As you learned, the Straight Shot slip-ons you received already have the standard V&H baffle in them.

The V&H quiet baffle will provide a little deeper note, however, you still won't feel much in the way of any additional power.

You can install the Thunder Torque Inserts into your slip-ons, with or without the quiet baffle. You will feel a definite increase in low and mid range power.

Check out the vids and dyno charts at the link above.
