Developed a bad oil leak a couple days ago. Thought it was coming from the rocker box gasket, but it's actually coming out of the rear left rocker box bolt. I say bad because the entire underside of my gas tank and my legs were covered in oil after a 30 mile ride.
Everything I've read says you shouldn't overtighten the bolt, so I'm wondering if there is a seal or something I can replace without taking the entire rocker off? Should I back the bolt out and add some silicon gasket stuff around the threads? It's definitely coming from the bolt, not the rocker gaskets.
I would back the bolt out and also look to see that the RB cover is not cracked. It should be an easy fix with replacing the fiber washer. I just changed mine as I resealed my lower rear RB. DONT get the fiber washers at the dealer, I did and they charged me over $6 Go to Home Depot a pack of them is less than a dollar. I also think a little Hylomar or Permatex sealer on the underside of the fiber washer wouldn't hurt. Good luck.
