I recently bought a 2008 Nightster that was mostly stock. I added Cycle Shack slipons and a DK Customs Outlaw 636V breather. I've searched the forums for help, but haven't found anything specific to my bike.
Here's my question: What do I need to do, if anything, to make sure it performs optimally? I've read about other models and it sounds like I can do anywhere from nothing, to spending quite a bit at the dealer. I've read I can install an XIED, do a remap, calibrate the ECM, do a download, etc.
How does the average rider figure this out? Any help would be appreciated.
It's dependent on what you want to accomplish. Are you planning on doing more performance mods in the future? If the answer is yes, then you want to spend more money and get something like the Harley pro street tuner or a power vision.
If the answer is no, then go with the XIED. It is perfect for the average rider. I did 8000 miles with a setup like yours and a XIED. It will eliminate he deceleration popping as well as give you a slight increase in hp.
For the most part it is accepted that the Harley stage 1 download will work, but it is not worth the money. For a fraction of the cost, the XIED will do the same exact thing. Don't waste your money at the dealership.
