I have heard the way to go for a cheap, good looking two up setup, at least for the seat, is to look for a 1200C stock seat from '07 on. I used to ride all the time with a Badlander on my '02 883 and had no issues, but it seems like only models from '07-'09 are compatible with each other.
Also, being that the stock solo Nightster seat is lower, I'd like to keep it as low as possible with a two-up seat.
Any idea if this '11 1200C stock two-up seat will fit, and how much higher it might be?
The reason why you need a seat from a 2007-2008 is the ECM is located on the rear fender. The 2007-08 seats have a cut out in the seat pan so the seat fits over the ECM. In 2009, Harley moved the ECM to behind the engine on the down frame in front of the battery/oil tank. These seats (2009-2016) have no cut out in the seat pan.
You have two choices: (1) get a seat for a 2007-08 Sportster (2) Fuel Moto sells a fender insert that was used by their PC-5 so the ECM and PC-5 can fit under the seat. It is a plastic pan that fits where the ECM plastic mount is and lowers the ECM/PC-5 to under the fender some. Using that to put the ECM in, you can then use any year seat. I think the pan is still available and is about $11...don't quote me. It came with my PC-5 when I put it on my 2007 XL1200R.
