Helps your arms with fatigue on long rides. That is the only time I use mine.I found my bike handles better without the shield and you get head buffeting.

Yeah, the big question is if it helps with the torso buffeting. I've found that, if I open the vents on my jacket while riding on a highway, it turns me into a big drag chute on the motorcycle. Also, does the airstream over the windshield make the helmet buffeting any worse than it already is without the windshield?
The last question would be which size windshield you got. Was it the tallest one, or one of the midheight? I'm looking into the windshield option since a longer trip I took recently got a little fatiguing on the highway, especially with a headwind.
I put together the "essentials" one piece at a time also, the overall price came to a couple hundred less than buying the package outright. I just waited for the specials at the stealerships to pick up the parts. This past Thursday I picked up the QD windshield and I've had it on since then. The highway runs are much easier - less torso buffeting and I noticed a lower wind noise level with minimal helmet buffeting (I've been wearing my half shell lately). I'm still undecided on the height of the windshield itself. If I sit straight up I can see over the shield (and feel an increase in noise and buffeting), but I still find myself looking both above and thru the shield depending on the situation. Ithink I would have a better view of the road if it were an inch or so shorter. I'm gonna wait for a while before I consider cutting it down. I took the advice of several salespeople at the stealership - I purchased the 58063-04 "QD Compact windshield standard height", rather than going with a compact version. As they explained, if you're going to put on a shield, why would you go for minimal coverage?? You can always cut down the larger shield to the height you prefer. I still share the same opinion of many forum members in that I prefer the looks of the bike (and most bikes in general) without the shield, but I do like the benefits so far.
My .02 for what it's worth. Memphis Fats is acrylic-- a bigger, tougher shield. I think Harley uses polycarbonate--not as durable, but safer in a wreck (it gives easier). Harley pillow seat is a nice tandem saddle--less expensive than the Sundowner as I recall. But, the essentials kit should do a good job for you.
Does not help with Torso or Head buffeting.I have a low prophile and one that is 5in taller.I think you need a shield that helps with the updraft.I have not found one that does that.Maybe a wider shiels like on a bagger.I struggle with this situation alot. Not sure what to do so I just ride without the shield.
