Default 2002 1200 custom?

Currently riding a Honda Shadow ACE 750. Going to look at a 2002 1200XL tomorrow. I have the ACE running great but would like the added umph for highway (not freeway) riding. I also like the HD brand and have always been interested in owning am HD. Anybody have any reviews or words of wisdom for me? Thanks.

2001 1200C<br/>

Here is a picture of my 1200C. Loved it. Several trips from NC to FL to DC. Even road her to Sturgis.

I put over 15k miles on it before I traded it for Road King Classic.

I road Jap bikes, street and dirt most of my life, great fun but always thought I would like a sportster. Finally got a 2000 883 with 1200 & special cams, screaming eagle mufflers with the baffles removed, sounds fantastic and walks away from my sons 2005,1200XL I suppose because of the cams and the lower gearing. If I had it to do over I would get a 2004 because of the larger rear tire. My sons 2005 has really week front springs and a skinny 21" front wheel which I find really undesirable. The ride and handling on rough roads are very poor. Anyway, have fun and be careful, remember, you have almost no protection in an accident.

After not riding a bike for 30 years I picked up a used Honda 750 Spirit last Fall just a little west of Wheeling. Then after riding a few hundred miles decided to sell it to a coworker and buy a 2014 Sportster 1200C. The Sportster seems to be the bike all other types like Honda try to imitate and look like... I'll have to say the Honda was probably a smoother ride but not near as much fun as I've had on the Sportster so far. Love the sound, feel and it's a real head turner when riding the Harley. Good luck !

Different bikes- you will note more power, but imo the biggest difference is in the weight. The added weight gives more stability on the big road, which makes longer trips a bit more comfortable... my personal preference would be for a newer model (better ride, and not having to tune it all the time make that for me)-
