Had a strange power loss last night. Went out with friends, rode about 30 miles to our first stop, no troubles. Bike sat for about an hour and a half. Rode across town about 2 miles and sat at our second stop for an hour. Time to head home, rode about 5 miles and all of a sudden I lose power like I'm running out of fuel but I had just topped up before going out . I was in second gear so I down shift to first, same thing. I roll the throttle but I can't get more than 20 MPH. Upshift to second, same thing. I pull the clutch in and rev the bike and she revs up like normal. Let the clutch out, back to 20 MPH at full throttle. Pull the clutch in and rev it HARD this time and the problem clears. Rode 25 miles to home with no trouble. Get on the bike this morning to go to work, get 10 miles down the road same thing happens again. Clutch in, rev HARD, problem goes away. Ride back home to get the car, no problems. Engine wasn't hot, outside temps were mid-40s.
About my bike, I hardtailed the frame turned it into a bobber but didn't mess with electrics or the engine. Drag pipes with short baffles. I rejetted the carb and replaced the ham can with an 8" round AN air cleaner. I recently had a charging problem resulting in a new battery, starter relay, and rectifier. Stator checked out fine.
Sorry for the length of this post, wanted to give as many details as possible. Any ideas what is going on? I'm thinking coil or spark plug wires.
