The key components of a Stage 1 kit are:
Free breathing air filter
Free breathing exhaust
Rejetted carburetor (for 1957 to 2006 Sportster models) or remapped EFI (for 2007+ Sportster models with fuel injection)
Cost varies greatly depending on which parts you buy and how much of the installation you do yourself

So, K&N air filter and Hance and Vines short shots will do the trick? Remap EFI as well of course...

While the short shots look cool, they leave a lot to be desired for performance.

Just my opinion, but the basic exhaust/air/remap setup will net about 5%-10% gain in performance. The differences between the different combination of setups is even less.

The real question is do you want the 4HP increase in one setup that may look real good and sound real good on that Iron vs. a setup that will get a 6HP increase but may not sound good to you or not quite look good on that Iron. Might depend on your riding style if that difference is worth it.

I would suggest getting that bike first and then decide on the exhaust later. Hang out at the local HD dealer or bike rally and listed to what sounds good to you and ask what the setup is.

Your in the deciding stage, so plenty of time to look and listen.

I bought a 2015 Iron 883 about a year ago, I have 7500 miles on it and I ride somewhere around 30-50 miles a day. This bike is my daily mode of transportation and I've been happy with it. I weigh 160 and I have no problem getting it up to 100mph even with my wife on it with me. As far as gas milage, when it was new and i was babying it, it got 53 mpg, and now it typically get 44 because I beat the dog **** out of it. It's definitely underpowered but you can always upgrade it to a 1200 once you get tired/more experienced with the bike.

You can do 80+ with no problem. The iron is no different from any other 883 in most aspects.

Brass tacks. Buy used unless you like giving away money.

I can tell you that a brand new 883 and one with a well tuned stage 1 with a few thousand miles on it will be quite different. Smoothness, throttle response, and accerleration will be noticeable better. The seat is mostly ornamental, at least pre 2016, a mustang wide touring solo will make a dramatic improvement. I have a new street Bob that I really like, but still get a kick out of riding my wife's Iron. You will not get a new one for 7k, but gently used one a couple years old.
