Sharper lean angle,double frontbrakes, less unsprung weight, mid controls, tach,19" front tire, all these things make it moreof a hot rod than the custom.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the custom I am just saying that the R is sport oriented and the C is a cruiser.
If someone wants a hotrod they should buy an R and if they want a cruiser they should buy a C rather than trying to convert one into the other.

The 'lean angle' of the various Sportster models (in stock condition) is not as great as many think, or would like to think.

In fact, the lean angle of the 1200R is no greater than the standard 883.

Here is some information from the Harley site;

883 Lean Angle - Left 32* Right 32*
1200R Lean Angle - Left 32* Right 32*
1200L Lean Angle - Left 30* Right 31*
1200C Lean Angle - Left 31* Right 29*

As you can see, the angles are not that different, especially when you consider that the 1200R isalmost 5 inches"taller" than the other models.

I think the main goal of the 1200R was to provide a model with a higher riding and seating height.

I'm only 5'7 and I'm ready for a softail myself. Problem is I can't sell mine now without taking a huge hit. I love my sportster but after riding my buddy's softail standard, it just seems to fit me better. I didn't realize at the time I bought mine, and you might want to consider this, but you lay out some serious cash to get a Harley to fitright. I am at the same price now as my friend paid for his used05' softail and his already had the necessary stuff like mufflers,remap and saddlebags, etc. Hell, by the time I'm done , I'll be close to the price of a new softail standard. Just my .02

6-2 is too tall for a Sportster. Any good dealer will tell you that. I've had them all and now ride a FX Springer. An 883 is in my garage for my wife if she wants to ride. The best handeling bike I had was a Dyna Sport. If you must have a Sportster put foreward controlls on it.

ive had some guys tell me im too tall and some say im not. i would rather have a springer but another thing is the huge price difference (at least around here) between the sportster and everything else. i know price is not all you should look at but it is a big deciding factor right now. even used softtails and dynas around here are selling for a mint.
