I understand that these XR gas tanks were prone to swelling. Possibly a split gas tank?

If I may ask, did your wife have any burns or notice any excessive heat? those are serious burns, were you wearing jeans or shorts? Any blisters in the groin area? Wearing boots or tennis shoes and did they melt at all.. I've melted my boot heal on the muffler.

The wife rides her own bike - 08 triumph bonneville which she rides like a dirt bike. Off work I ride in jeans and full boots, like you I've melted the soles. The more I research I'm finding there are others who had their legs blistered. Maybe it was the direction of the wind coming off the gulf.

Yes, we have trip riding the Taos NM ring, if I can't get this sorted out I'll have to take one of my other bikes. I'm going to drop the tank, replace the O ring on gas cap, replace vent lines, and check the fuel injection lines. The bike is a daily driver to work for the last 6- months with no issues.
