So I'm left handed and I board the bike on the right hand side with my left leg kicking over the bike. Same thing in reverse when I get off. The problem is that often I end up popping the oil cap and not knowing it. The result, as you might imaging, is oil spitting out over the back of the bike -- particularly on the belt and rear wheel. So its a problem.

Any other lefties out there who have had this trouble? The only solution I've come up with is to tape it closed which is not very elegant. Is there a better solution, maybe a different oil cap?

p.s. When its on, two sides of the oil cap are flush w/the oil case, but two sides are slightly raised above it. If it were totally flush, I wouldn't have the problem and the manual says it should be flush. Am I not screwing it down right?

Cool

Good grief! Just get on and off the bike from the other side, it can't be that difficult! A darned sight easier than doing the high jump from the right.....

1- Sounds like your not tightening it enough, try tightening it beyond where you think it will break.
2- Get an analog temp gauge replacement, easier to use and no pop up feature.
3- As GR says, just get on the other side of the dam bike.

Talking

WHAT!!!??

there's no right or wrong way to get on a bike... anyone that says that is eating crack... because they can't figure out how to smoke it. there's less of a change of you knocking it over if you get on from the right but, we are talking .02 % chance of you knocking it over anyway... well, unless you were doing a Le Mans-style Running Start from cops with bags of money and jumped on from the left.

get a temp gauge oil stick that locks into place rather than that stupid pop up stick to solve your other issue. the rest of the shifting stuff around is lunacy.

lol...

I've known a lot of south paws and they got on and off their bikes just like every one else, the left side.
